How It Works

Part A: Register for the Amazon Associates Program
An essential part of the setup process involves submitting a short application on the Amazon website to join their Associates Program, an industry-leading online affiliate program which pays commissions to websites that refer product purchases to Amazon. After completing the registration form, Amazon provides you with an Associates ID, which is used to track referrals from your website to Amazon so that commissions can be credited to you. The registration process is specific to the Amazon online store most appropriate for the majority of your site visitors:

Part B: Customize a MotionMall web ad and place it on your website
You can build a customized MotionMall web ad by visiting the Create Your Web Ad area of this website. This 4-step process allows you to set preferences for the display and contents of your web ad. After entering your Amazon Associates ID and basic contact information, you are provided with a snippet of HTML code to place into the pages of your website where you want the MotionMall web ad to appear. There are no complicated scripts or files that need to be configured and placed on your web server; the insertion of the HTML code snippet is all that is required.

Part C: A user visits a page on your website
When a user requests to view a page on your website, your web server responds with the requested web page, which includes the MotionMall HTML code snippet. This HTML code instructs the user's browser to request a web ad from the MotionMall server, which responds by serving your custom-built web ad in the form of a Macromedia Flash file. The MotionMall web ad appears embedded within your web page along with the main page content. At no time does your web server communicate with the MotionMall server; each request is invoked from a user's web browser and is handled directly by the MotionMall server.

Part D: A user interacts with the MotionMall web ad
When a user begins browsing through the product categories on the MotionMall web ad, the user's browser makes a data request to the MotionMall server, which in turn requests product information from the Amazon online store through the Amazon E-Commerce Service. The MotionMall server receives the requested information from Amazon and then sends that information to the web ad so that it can be updated with the product information originally desired by the user.

Part E: A user clicks a product on the MotionMall web ad
When a user clicks a product that is displayed on the MotionMall web ad, the user's request is appended with an Amazon Associates ID and then forwarded to the Amazon website. The Associates ID is used by Amazon to determine the source of the referral. On a random basis, 85% of the requests are appended with your Associates ID, while the remaining 15% of the requests are appended with MotionMall's Associates ID. The end result is that the user's web browser displays the corresponding product detail page on the Amazon website.

Part F: A user purchases a product from Amazon
When a user purchases the product of interest or any other qualifying product on the Amazon website within 24 hours, Amazon pays a commission to the referring party as indicated by the Associates ID that was appended to the user's request. When you are the referring party, commissions are paid directly to you by Amazon according to the Amazon Associates Program operating agreement.
